All I have to do for a smile is to remember photos I’ve seen that highlight the similarity between dogs and their owners. You’ve seen them – I know you’re smiling now.
On a more serious note, can people see the similarity between you and your Master?
Of the many encouraging promises in the Bible I especially value those that describe God’s intention for us to be like Jesus. Paul encouraged the church in Corinth by urging, “Be imitators of me, just as I am of Christ.” We will model our lives after those we admire.
If I were to unpack the big theological word sanctification, I would say it is what happens to a person who is daily spending quality time with Jesus. It is the process by which God’s Spirit makes us more and more like Jesus.
Going back to what Paul said; we tend to think of imitation as somewhat fake – not the real thing. The miracle of God’s kingdom is that we are transformed – by the renewing of our minds. This is a big deal. Like a butterfly coming from a long green larva. This is an amazing purpose to get out of bed in the morning.
